From the President...
We are very grateful to the many parents who have donated to the Musical Note Club and volunteered for the winter concerts. Thank you very much!

Adjudication season will soon be here, so there will be a great need for parents to chaperone and to transport equipment. (Don't know what adjudications are? Check out our Guide to BMMS Annual Music Events in the November 2007 newsletter.) Please consider helping out. It is a great way to support your child's musical endeavors -- and to meet other parents.

We are beginning to look ahead to next year, and will be asking for nominations for Music Parents' leadership positions. It is not too early to be thinking about how you can become more involved. Please feel free to contact me or any of our board members to learn more about who we are and what we do. You can also visit us on the Web.

We look forward to hearing from you! -- Malinda Hughes

Treasurer's Report
A big "Thank You" goes out to all of the parents who have supported the Burleigh Manor musical groups by making a tax-deductible donation to the Musical Note Club. An extra thank you goes out to those who have also been able to apply for a corporate match through their employers. Remember, it's never too late to donate to the Musical Note Club if you have not done so yet.

So far this school year, we have used our funds to purchase much needed percussion mallets, bring in guest conductors, pay for royalty and copyright fees, and cover basic needs such as printing and postage.

With your help, we are continuing to support our student musicians and their outstanding directors with what they need to maintain the great musical tradition at BMMS. -- Mark Richmond

BSO Field Trip
On Wednesday, February 20, some BMMS Music students will attend a BSO performance at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore. The groups going are the Sixth-Grade Chorus, Concert Bands I and II and the Wind Ensemble. Chaperones are needed for this very enjoyable outing, and can attend free-of-charge. Buses leave BMMS at 10:30 for an 11:30 performance, and will return in time for students to eat a bag lunch back at school (parents are dismissed once the students are at school). If you would like to chaperone, please e-mail Mr. Brodie if your student is in one of the bands or e-mail Ms. Doring if your child is in Sixth Grade Chorus.

CHS Band News
I enjoyed the opportunity to meet and audition many of the Burleigh Manor band members last month. I am looking forward to having great bands next year!

Congrats to our CHS Jazz students who performed their winter concert on Jan 22 and also at the Maryland State Jazz Conference held at Towson University. Jazz Ensemble has met as a CLASS this year and not after school, this means more in-depth study of jazz for our students. Thank you to CHS parent Todd McCagg for providing the professional audio PA system.

Did you know? Centennial has a Music Honor Society "Tri M" which offers students a chance to provide service in a myriad of ways. Students can help tutor middle school or other students, perform at nursing homes, and provide other service for the community. Special thanks to all the "behind the scenes" students and officers of Tri-M.

CHS Band invades Universal Studios April 23-27th. Wish us luck as our CHS Band travels to Orlando to perform at the "Dynamic Music Festival" as well as performing in Universal Studios and "City Walk". Thank you to our parent chaperones: Chris Green, Richard and Sue Rain, Ms. LeRoy, and Mr. and Ms. Hirschmann. -- Dr. Max VanDerBeek
