Volunteer
Below are descriptions of each of the volunteer positions available throughout the school year. Some require time to organize and execute, some require relatively little time at a concert you will already be attending.
You can sign-up to volunteer in one of two ways. Either e-mail the volunteer coordinator of your child's Music program. Or complete a volunteer form, and submit it to your student's Music teacher. To download forms, you will need

Volunteer Opportunities
Fundraising: Beginning of Year
"Musical Note Club", an opportunity for families to financially support the performance arts at BMMS; distribute donation forms, collect contributions, and give to treasurer.
All County Band Auditions: October
Volunteer for one-hour shifts at BMMS to check in auditioning students, restore classrooms and cafeteria area to normal after last audition. Students can help set-up and assist with check-in as guides. One person to coordinate; one person to arrange for soda and pizza for student volunteers/adjudicators.
Concert Volunteers: Winter and Spring
- Set Up - about 2 hours on the afternoon of the concert: set up chairs, stands, move instruments, etc. Students also help. Location: Centennial HS or BMMS. Need 6-8 people each concert.
- Chaperone - Stay with and monitor behavior of performers in warm-up rooms and while they are audience members. Need 9-12 people each concert.
- Entrance Door - take Tickets/Money and hand out Programs at entrance beginning ½ hour before the concert begins; Control entrance during performance. Need 6-8 people each concert.
- Take Down - Return chairs, stands, and instruments immediately following performance. Students also help.
- Programs - Collate, staple, and fold programs before events.
Tersiguel's Musical Feasts: January and February
Before and after event, help transport stands and other equipment to/from Tersiguel's Restaurant in historic Ellicott City. Programs/fliers printed and distributed.
Adjudications: Late Winter and Spring
Chaperone - Stay with and monitor behavior of performers in waiting room, warm-up room, and hall, provides an opportunity to see great performances! Return equipment to BMMS. Need 6-8 people each event.
Hershey "Music in the Parks Festival": May
Travel to Hershey, PA (student performers on buses; chaperones provide own transportation) to attend adjudication of Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir in morning, then chaperone small group of students at Hershey Park during the afternoon. This day-long trip showcases our student performers at their best! And it is A LOT of fun! Many people needed.
Music Celebration Trip: May
Music students visit a local park for a school day-long well earned time to celebrate their accomplishments. Chaperones and others to coordinate pizza/soda/ice cream, are needed. Many people needed.
Band Awards Dinner: June
Coordinate or assist at this potluck dinner for ALL the band students held at BMMS. Requires set-up: decoration/table
covers; tending food or drink tables; clean-up. Organizers who purchase decorations/plastic table covers, paper products, and drinks will
be reimbursed. Need 10-12 people, one coordinator.
Chorus Awards Parties: Late May/Early June
Assist choral director with in-school awards parties for Chamber Choir and Choruses.
Music Library: Ongoing
Serve as librarian or assistant cataloguing, sorting and accounting for music; ongoing once a week job for librarian, volunteers on as-needed basis, especially at end of year. Need 3-4 people, one coordinator.
Newsletter: Ongoing
Create, publish, and distribute a newsletter twice a year to BMMS Music Parents. Need 1-2 people.
Publicity: Ongoing
One person to submit articles to The View, The Howard Co Times, and The Baltimore Sun as needed regarding concerts, awards, accomplishments of students.
Gifts for Related Arts Teachers: Middle and Year End
Coordinate purchase and distribution of gifts to related arts teachers who allow students to leave class for sectionals.
Thank You Notes: Ongoing
Write and send thank you notes to guests, hosts, administration and staff for supporting performance art at BMMS.
CLES, MWES, NES and CHS Liaison: Ongoing
Establish and maintain communications between chorus, band, and strings directors at each school regarding performance dates, equipment, and mutual support.
